A bit about me

I was born in Fairfax, Virginia in 1962 and grew up in Kinston, North Carolina.  I started taking pictures in 8th grade with my father’s Agfa Pronto 35mm camera. In 1977, I visited my Uncle Bob in New Orleans, where he taught me the basic principles of photography and darkroom techniques, learned from his time as a photographer in the Air Force and after. Over the years, no matter what was going on in my life, I always made time to continue my photography. I truly enjoy time in the field, just wandering around shooting whatever catches my eye, both big and small.  Whether I am in the field, spending hours photographing one tiny mountain stream, or in the digital darkroom, listening to jazz and working on images, I become very absorbed in the pictures, the places and emotions they evoke.  I lose track of time, I relax and this “work” truly becomes my sanctuary.
